"I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list"--Susan Sontag

If you've been following this blog for any length of time, you have probably realized that our little family has serious nomadic tendencies. We absolutely love to travel. To go and do. To see and experience. It's kind of what makes us tick. We get a little restless when we are settled in one place for too long, knowing there are so many places out there we haven't been yet. And, we believe there is an education inherent to travel that is unequalled in any other arena. That's why, after much discussion, we have decided to take this show on the road. This next adventure is a big one and will take us around the world and back again. We plan to visit Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia (and New Zealand) and some of the parts of North America we have less experience with. We will take a leisurely pace, so as to make the most of the experience, and we will make up some of the itinerary as we go. The plane leaves on May 5, 2015, but the adventure begins now, with piles of research on every topic you can imagine (and maybe some you can't imagine)! We are so thankful for and excited about this opportunity! We hope you'll stick around for the journey. Please feel free to share ideas with us about places to visit or tips from your own adventures. Let's do this!

  1. I think a lot of homeschoolers are intrigued by this topic. Roadschooling to many seems like a far off dream. Can you share how your family is able to do this?

  2. Hey, Mara! Thanks so much for your interest in our roadschooling adventure! Travel is a priority for our family, and we have arranged our lives to provide the flexibility to do that often and occasionally on a large scale. My husband owns his own web marketing company, which allows him to work from home, wherever that may be, as long as he can find reasonably reliable internet and phone service. We are selling most of our possessions to help with the cost of the trip. And, we are using saved airline miles and hotel points that we have accumulated over the course of several years to defer costs, as well. And, we don't have other commitments keeping us here at this time. As for school, we have digitized all of our school books and can therefore easily transport them on laptops and tablets. Probably the biggest thing, though, is that we are willing to jump into the unknown and see what happens! I hope you'll continue to follow us on our journey. There is a tab at the top of the blog labeled "RTW Travel," which will contain updates about everything from planning to packing to the actual travel.

We have family & friends abroad & it would be lovely to visit them for an extended amount of time. God bless you on your journey & we will most definitely stop by your blog to see your adventures unfold.
